About
Mikayla Crieger is a Connecticut born photographer whose work primarily revolves around the representation of topics that typically involve social stigmas using both conventional and unconventional methods of photography. Such topics include, but are not limited to: LGBTQIA+ representation, mental health, and feminism. Her inspiration is primarily drawn from past experiences and the world around her.
She believes that everything in life is has a cyclical nature and is intertwined in some way, from human life to the nature around us. The idea that rough times will eventually give way is part of this ideology, realizing that no state of being is permanent; life, in all aspects, is in a constant state of change.
Her work has been displayed at the Dorrance Hamilton Gallery at Salve Regina University for the B.O.S.S. (Best of Salve Students) Juried Art Show in 2016, 2017, and 2018, as well as being in the inaugural Newport Sidewalk Parade. Awards include the Best of Salve Students Photography Category (2017, 2018), the Best of Salve Students Ceramics Category (2018), and she was the recipient of the Endowed Scholarship in Visual Arts (2017).
Mikayla graduated cum laude from Salve Regina University in Newport, RI in May 2019, with a BA in both psychology and studio art with a concentration in photography. She attended Lesley University in Cambridge, MA as a part of the masters program in the Expressive Therapies Division of Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus in art therapy. She successfully graduated in May 2021 and is actively working in the mental health field while continuing to engage in artistic practices.
